Black Margarita Snail

A compact, capable algae grazer that rights itself when overturned – practical, durable, and reef safe.

The Black Margarita Snail (Tegula eiseni) is a reliable workhorse of the reef cleaning crew, grazing continuously on film algae, diatoms, and green algae from rockwork and glass with a compact, domed shell that navigates tight spaces larger snails cannot access. A practical advantage over Mexican Turbo Snails is the Black Margarita’s ability to right itself when overturned – reducing mortality from being flipped by current or other tank inhabitants. They prefer cooler temperatures and are particularly well-suited to reef systems maintained in the lower acceptable range (72-76 degrees F). Reef safe with all corals and invertebrates. Keep in proportional numbers to available algae growth; supplement diet with dried nori or algae wafers in very clean systems.
