Birdsnest

Birdsnest Coral (Seriatopora hystrix) is one of the most graceful SPS corals available, producing intricate networks of fine, needle-tipped branches that accumulate into dense, three-dimensional structures reminiscent of woven nests. Coloration ranges from cream and tan to vivid pink and purple – with quality aquacultured specimens displaying intense pigmentation that fluoresces under blue spectrum lighting. Birdsnest is considered a beginner-accessible SPS: more tolerant of water parameter fluctuations than Acropora, and fast-growing under quality lighting (200-350+ PAR) with moderate to strong, multidirectional flow. Stable alkalinity and calcium are still essential for healthy skeletal growth. Its fine branching architecture provides excellent micro-habitat for copepods and small crustaceans, supporting overall reef biodiversity.
