Cabbage Leather

The Cabbage Leather (Sarcophyton spp.) earns its name from the layered, undulating form of its cap, which billows softly in current like fabric draped over rock. One of the most forgiving soft corals available, it thrives under moderate to high lighting and adapts to a wide range of water parameters – an ideal choice for collectors building out their first reef or filling volume in a large display. Colonies can grow to impressive size over time, developing a commanding presence in the aquascape. Periodically, this coral will close up and shed a thin mucus layer as part of its natural growth cycle – a sign of good health, not distress. Excellent for systems that also house fish, as it poses no significant chemical threat when appropriately spaced.
