Desjardini Sailfin Tang

The Desjardini Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma desjardinii) is one of the most visually impressive tangs available, capable of raising its large, sail-like dorsal fin to nearly double its apparent body height when displaying or alarmed. Its body is intricately patterned with horizontal stripes, spots, and lines in yellow, white, and brown – a design that becomes more complex and striking with age. Desjardini Sailfins are robust, active fish that require large aquariums (150 gallons minimum) with significant horizontal swimming volume. They are herbivores – provide abundant dried nori, macroalgae, and quality herbivore-formula frozen foods daily. Generally reef safe and peaceful toward dissimilar fish, though competitive with other large tangs. A hallmark fish for the serious, large-format reef display.
