Devil’s Hand

Devil’s Hand Coral (Lobophytum spp.) is a striking soft coral that grows in an upright, lobed form reminiscent of an outstretched hand, with thick, fleshy branches extending from a central stalk. Coloration is typically olive green to brown, taking on warmer, more golden tones under quality reef lighting. It is exceptionally hardy – tolerating a wide range of water parameters and lighting levels – making it a reliable choice for collectors building out a soft coral display or adding structural volume to a mixed reef. Devil’s Hand prefers moderate to strong, multidirectional flow to keep its tissues healthy and polyps extended. Like all leathers, it periodically retracts and sheds its outer layer as part of normal growth; this phase passes within a few days without intervention.
