Flame Hawkfish

The Flame Hawkfish (Neocirrhites armatus) is among the most vividly colored fish available for the reef aquarium – its body a deep, saturated scarlet-red with black speckled markings along the dorsal surface and around the eye, creating an intensity of color that is striking against the blues and greens of a coral-dominated aquascape. Like all hawkfish, it perches motionless on elevated coral branches or rock outcroppings, watching the water column for prey before striking with sudden speed. The Flame Hawkfish is reef safe with hard and soft corals but will consume ornamental shrimp, small crabs, and other crustaceans – plan invertebrate selection accordingly. Feed a varied diet of frozen meaty foods including mysis, krill, and small shrimp pieces. A bold, characterful fish that adds immediate visual impact.
