The Foxface Rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus) is immediately recognizable by its dramatic black-and-white facial mask and contrasting golden yellow body – a high-contrast design that makes it one of the most visually striking mid-size reef fish available. It is an active herbivore that grazes constantly on filamentous algae, macroalgae, and nuisance plant growth, providing meaningful biological nutrient control in larger systems. Foxfaces are generally peaceful toward dissimilar fish and reef safe with established corals, though they may occasionally nip at soft coral polyps when underfed. An important note for handlers: the dorsal and pelvic spines are venomous and capable of delivering a painful sting – handle with care during acclimation and maintenance. Provide a robust daily diet of marine algae and nori.
