This Galaxy Coral (Galaxea fascicularis) is a mature, densely packed colony whose individual polyps are extended to full length, each tipped with a bright white-to-green bead that catches and scatters light like a field of stars – the behavior that gives the species its name. Under the blue lighting of this photograph, the polyp tips fluoresce in vivid aqua-green against a warm purple-brown base tissue, creating a depth of color and texture that few corals can match at this density. Galaxea is a moderately demanding coral that prefers moderate to high lighting and medium, alternating flow. It is an aggressive stinger with long sweeper tentacles – plan placement with generous spacing from all neighbors. Feed occasionally with fine meaty foods. What you see in this photograph is exactly the specimen you will receive.
