Goniopora

Goniopora (Flowerpot Coral) is among the most visually spectacular corals in the LPS category. When fully extended, its long polyps – each tipped with 24 petals arranged around a central mouth – emerge from the skeleton in dense, swaying columns that resemble a field of animated flowers. Coloration ranges from cream and tan to vivid green, purple, and bi-color combinations; the polyps themselves are often more intensely colored than the skeleton beneath. Goniopora has historically been considered challenging, but aquacultured specimens and improved husbandry understanding have made it significantly more accessible. It prefers moderate, indirect lighting, gentle flow, and benefits substantially from regular target feeding with fine meaty foods and phytoplankton. Water quality stability is essential. Reward for the experienced keeper is exceptional.
