The Green Brittle Sea Star (Ophiarachna incrassata) is a large, capable scavenger whose long, spined arms navigate deep into rockwork and substrate to consume uneaten food, detritus, and organic waste that accumulates in areas inaccessible to surface-grazing cleaners. It is primarily nocturnal, spending daylight hours tucked beneath rocks and emerging at night on its cleaning circuit. An important compatibility note: the Green Brittle Sea Star is an opportunistic predator of small, slow-moving fish – gobies, dartfish, and small sleeping fish near the substrate are at risk, particularly at night. Not recommended in systems housing small, benthic fish species. In systems with larger, active fish and a meaningful detritus load to manage, it performs its cleaning role effectively. A functional specialist for the right application.
