Montipora

Montipora is one of the most species-diverse SPS genera available, encompassing encrusting, plating, and branching growth forms that adapt beautifully to different positions within the aquascape. Coloration ranges from deep burgundy and forest green to vivid orange, purple, and rainbow morphs – many of which fluoresce brilliantly under blue and UV lighting. More forgiving than Acropora, Montipora tolerates moderate swings in water parameters and grows well under a wide range of PAR values (100-350+), making it an excellent entry point into SPS keeping. Flow should be moderate to strong and multi-directional to ensure waste removal and consistent polyp extension. As with all SPS, stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium are essential for sustained growth. A foundational coral for the mixed reef.
