Niger Triggerfish

The Niger Triggerfish (Odonus niger) is one of the most visually striking fish available for the saltwater aquarium, displaying a deep electric blue body with vivid red teeth and distinctive blue-highlighted facial markings that intensify with age. Unlike many triggers, the Niger is less destructive toward invertebrates than its relatives, but it remains a large, assertive fish capable of reaching 12-18 inches that will dominate tank mates over time. Best suited to a large FOWLR system of 180 gallons or more with robust tank mates of similar size. Feed a varied meaty diet including shrimp, squid, and hard-shelled crustaceans to satisfy its need to grind. Not reef safe – it will investigate, bite, and potentially consume smaller invertebrates and ornamental shrimp. A statement fish for the serious fish-only collector.
