Royal Gramma Basslet

The Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto) is one of the most striking small fish available for the saltwater aquarium, its body divided sharply between a deep violet-purple front half and a rich golden yellow rear – a color combination that appears almost painted. Royal Grammas are reef safe, peaceful toward most tank mates, and adapt readily to captive life, spending much of their time hovering near rock ledges and cave entrances from which they dart to feed on passing zooplankton. Feed a varied meaty diet of frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and enriched preparations. They will show mild aggression toward fish of similar shape and color – avoid pairing with Dottybacks or other Gramma species. An excellent, low-maintenance addition that punches well above its price point in visual impact.
