Sailfin Tang

The Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma veliferum) is a large, commanding fish whose fully extended dorsal fin spans nearly the height of its body – a display used in territorial assertion and threat response that is genuinely impressive in a large aquarium. Its body features a complex pattern of horizontal lines, spots, and markings in yellow, brown, and cream that develops further with age. Sailfins are robust herbivores that provide meaningful algae control in larger systems and are generally reef safe and peaceful toward dissimilar fish. Require a minimum 150-gallon system with broad horizontal swimming volume and a diet heavily supplemented with dried nori and macroalgae. May show aggression toward other large tangs – introduce carefully in multi-tang systems. One of the most visually impressive surgeonfish available.
