Tomini Tang

The Tomini Tang (Ctenochaetus tominiensis) is a standout member of the bristletooth tang group, its compact body displaying a rich brown base color with striking blue-edged fins and a distinctive yellow-tipped caudal fin that brightens with maturity. Unlike its larger tang relatives, the Tomini reaches only about 6 inches – making it one of the most appropriately scaled herbivores for reef systems from 75 gallons upward. Its specialized comb-like teeth are ideal for harvesting hair algae and detritus from rock surfaces, providing biological maintenance that rivals mechanical alternatives. Reef safe with all corals and invertebrates, and generally peaceful in community settings with non-similar species. Supplement its diet with nori and quality herbivore frozen preparations. A practical and elegant addition to any reef display.
